Baylor University's Honors College, with the support of the School of Music, is pleased to announce that Helge Antoni, world-renowned pianist, is coming to Baylor this November. Mr. Antoni will visit classes, host a master class, and on November 8th offer a lecture entitled, "Follow Your (He-)arts: The Call of the Arts and Humanities that Produces Grace in Action." Two days later he will offer a concert entitled, "Inspiracíon Latina: A Spicy Mix of Spanish and Latin American Music."
Mr. Antoni's interest in Baylor stems from a quixotic encounter he had with Alden Smith, associate dean in the Honors College, this past summer in Italy. Dr. Smith struck up a conversation with Mr. Antoni a few minutes before a jazz concert that they were both to attend. They're shared interest in art, culture, music and literature--particularly the writing of the Swedish author Axel Munthe--provided the basis of a friendship that has extended accross the Atlantic and now allows the Baylor and Waco community to enjoy the aforementioned concert that Mr. Antoni will perform on 10 November at 7:30 p.m. in Roxy Grove Auditorium.
Helge Antoni, who is an Exclusive Steinway Artist and Artist-in-residence at Germany's prestigious and first private university, the Universität Witten/Herdecke, has a truly international platform, having played concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Tonhalle in Zurich, La Salle Gaveau in Paris, and the Orchestra Hall in Chicago, to name a few. Helge and his wife, Marissa once owned and resided in the last atelier of Degas in Paris; they now live in Malmö, Sweden, but travel frequently to Lima, Peru, where the Antoni's have created and continue to underwrite a foundation to help young musicians.
Both the lecutre and the concert are free and open to the public. Please feel warmly invited to attend. For further information please see contact Alden Smith.
