Emily Cyril - Class of 2012

When I came to Baylor I knew I would want to graduate with a science degree and head towards a career in the medical field because Baylor is one of the best schools in Texas to prepare me for this vocation. I had these intentions in mind, but I knew I wouldn't be completely happy if I gave up one of the things I love - music, in which Baylor is also renowned. So I became a music minor with the hopes of growing my skills as a musician. At first, being a music minor wasn't enough for me and the Church Music Program offered a more extensive curriculum. I thought being a Church Music Minor would be more applicable to my home church's music ministry that I've been involved with literally all my life.

So far, my experience with the minor has been wonderful - I've learned so much with the guidance of the some of the best faculty in the nation. I've gained musicianship, piano, and vocal skills that I would have never known about otherwise if I was not a Church Music Minor. I've even grown in my faith and deepened my relationship with God by better understanding what music and worship in the church is really about. Even though I may be bogged down with a full schedule, being a part of the Church Music Program at Baylor is something I definitely will not regret - the only thing I would regret is not being able to stay longer to learn more about church music.
