THE SUMMER PIANO INSTITUTE, THE SUMMER ORGAN INSTITUTE AND THE PIPE ORGAN ENCOUNTER at Baylor School of Music are exciting opportunities for talented young piano and organ students. An intensive week of study and varied musical experience is offered within the college environment of the Baylor campus. Students are housed in supervised dormitories and have the use of University practice and recreational facilities.
THE SUMMER PIANO INSTITUTE is open to rising 8th-12th graders. Musical activities for the week include private lessons, master classes and lecture-demonstrations with members of the Baylor piano faculty, theory class and computer theory drill, keyboard skills classes in the Clavinova digital labs, videos of famous artists, regular practice periods, and student and faculty recitals.
THE PIPE ORGAN ENCOUNTER for Adults - This event-filled week includes private and group lessons, videos, visits to organs in local churches, and concerts, as well as classes on registration, hymn playing, improvisation, and organ building.
THE Summer Organ Institute is open to pianists and organists ages 13-18. The event-filled week includes private and group lessons, videos, visits to organs in local churches, and concerts, as well as classes on registration, hymn playing, improvisation, and organ building.
THE COST for the Summer Piano Institute is $505, including tuition, fees, dormitory, and meals. The cost for commuting students is $335, including tuition and lunch. The cost for the Pipe Organ Encounter is $450, including tuition, fees, dormitory, and meals. Tuition for commuting students is $295, including tuition and lunch. The reduced cost of this camp is made possible by major funding provided by the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America. Additional support is provided by the American Institute of Organ Builders and Margaret R. Evans. Permanently endowed AGO scholarships are provided in memory of Charlene Brice Alexander, Robert S. Baker, Seth Bingham, Clarence Dickinson, Philip Hahn, Charles N. Henderson, Alfred E. Lunsford, Ned Siebert, and Martin M. Wick, and in honor of Philip E. Baker, Ruth Milliken, and Morgan and Mary Simmons.
Return the APPLICATION and send a LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION from your teacher and an AUDITION TAPE or CD prior to May 18 (piano) / May 1 (organ). Audition material should include two or more contrasting selections. Students with no prior organ study may audition for the Pipe Organ Encounter on piano. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by June 6 (piano) / May 8 (organ).

Jane Abbott-Kirk, Piano
Associate Professor of Piano. In demand as a recitalist, concerto soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, clinician, and adjudicator. Holds the B.M., M.M., and Performer's Certificate in piano from Indiana University. Outstanding Tenured Faculty Award at Baylor in 1989. Recording artist for the Musical Heritage Society.
Bradley Bolen, Piano
Senior Lecturer in Piano. Soloist, accompanist, and lecturer. Teaches private piano and group piano. Principal teachers include David Stokan and Nancy Garrett. Additional study with Claude Frank and Menahem Pressler. Arranged, composed, and recorded for the films The War at Home and The Spelling Bee. Frequent adjudicator for piano contests and festivals throughout the U.S.
Kae Hosoda-Ayer, Piano
Assistant Professor of Piano and Director of Collaborative Piano. Collaborative pianist and soloist. Recitalist in Japan, Canada, South Korea, and the United States. Performs with clarinetist Christopher Ayer as Duo Karudan throughout the U.S. B.M., Tohogakuen School of Music, Japan; M.M. and Graduate Diploma, New England Conservatory; D.M.A., The University of Texas at Austin.
Terry Lynn Hudson, Piano
Senior Lecturer in Piano. Performs as soloist, duo pianist, and accompanist. B.M., James Madison University; M.M., University of Cincinnati; D.M.A., The University of Texas at Austin. Piano study with Nancy Garrett, William Race, Elizabeth Pridonoff, and Vicki Berneking. Additional coursework in solo performance and vocal accompanying in Salzburg, Austria.
Brian Marks, Piano
Associate Professor of Piano. Soloist, accompanist, and adjudicator. Recording of John Harbison's San Antonio for saxophone and piano on the AUR label (with Baylor saxophonist Michael Jacobson) nominated for a Grammy award. Has premiered several new works for piano by American composers. Additional study in Munich, Germany, under a Rotary Foundation Grant.
Lesley Sisterhen McAllister, Piano
Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy. Teaches piano pedagogy and group piano. Active as a clinician and adjudicator. Has published articles for American Music Teacher and the Piano Pedagogy Forum. B.M., University of Houston; M.M., Florida State University; and D.M.A. in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, where she studied with Jane Magrath.
James Williams, Piano
Professor of Piano and Director of Keyboard Studies. Teaches studio piano. Performs as soloist and collaborative pianist. Holds the D.M.A., M.M., and B.M. degrees in piano from the University of Cincinnati. Piano study with Raymond Dudley, John Bigg, and Loren Withers. Postgraduate study in Milan, Italy, with Ilonka Deckers.
