Baylor’s Board of Regents increased in size June 1 when four members completed their terms of service and seven new regents were welcomed as participants in the University’s governance. The newly elected regents, who will serve three-year terms, are:

Mark Hurd, BBA ’79, of Atherton, Calif., CEO of Oracle Corp.;

Dr. Neal Jeffrey, BBA ’75, of Highland Village, associate pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas;

Mark E. Lovvorn, BBA ’76, B.Acc. ’77, of Dallas, chairman and CEO of Providence Bancshares Corp. and chairman of Providence Bank of Texas; and

Dr. Dennis Ray Wiles, BA ’81 (University of Alabama at Birmingham), MDiv ’85, PhD ’92 (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary), of Arlington, Texas, pastor of First Baptist Church of Arlington, who was appointed by the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

“We are blessed to be able to add to our regent membership these extraordinarily talented and dedicated servant leaders who love Baylor and want to see the University prosper in its impact on the world and in the lives of our students,” Richard Willis, BBA ’81, MBA ’82, chair of the Baylor Board of Regents, said at the time of the regent elections. “These individuals bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the board, as well as a deep understanding of and commitment to the University’s mission and vision.”

Additionally, the board elected three new individuals to serve one-year terms as non-voting regents who represent a variety of constituent groups in the Baylor family. Those regents are:

Jay Fields, a sophomore University Scholar from Kingwood, who is serving as the student regent;

Phil Duren, BBA ’72, of Woodway, Texas, who will represent the Baylor “B” Association, composed of Baylor athletic letterwinners, and will attend the Athletics and Conference Affiliation Committee meetings; and

Chris Manning, BBA ’84, of Dallas, representing the Baylor Bear Foundation, the primary fundraising organization for Baylor athletics, who will attend both the Athletics and Conference Affiliation Committee and the board meetings.
