Policies Concerning Baylor's Response To Reports Of Criminal Acts And Other Emergencies Occurring On Campus

Baylor University is concerned about all criminal acts, fires, and injuries that occur on or near campus. The Baylor Police Department investigates reported criminal activity or emergencies occurring on campus. In addition to keeping records of these events, the department obtains computer printouts from the Waco Police Department that indicate the types of reported criminal activity that occurred at locations near the campus and that were investigated by the Waco Police. These statistics are made available to appropriate University administrators.

Policies Concerning Access To Campus Buildings

Residence Halls:

Each residence hall is staffed by a professional live-in residence hall director and also an assistant residence hall director in larger halls. These professional staff members are assisted by upper-division or undergraduate students employed as community leaders (CLs). Most residence halls are locked 24 hours a day; access is permitted only through card reader access doors, which require a resident's Baylor identification card. All residence life staff members who enter the residential area of buildings are required to wear a photo identification badge. Individuals seen who are unknown to residents and without a photo badge should be immediately reported to the front desk. All guests of residents should be accompanied by the resident at all times. Safety & Security Education Officers are on duty between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. These professional staff members move freely in and around specific zones of residence halls where they interact and build relationships with students, confront and report unacceptable behavior, check that all exit doors are secure, and alert Baylor police about suspicious behavior. The Safety & Security Education Officers are available to assist students and others when needed and are accessible by cellular telephone. Office assistants and night assistants are also available in some halls to assist students and other individuals who may need to enter the residence halls.

Academic and Administrative Buildings:

Academic and administrative buildings on campus are locked by custodial personnel at varying times depending on the needs of members of the University community scheduled to use those buildings.

Admittance to Moody Memorial Library and the Jesse H. Jones Library is restricted after 10 p.m. to Baylor faculty, other employees, and students.
