A few days before the National Day of Prayer, May 6, more than 400 alumni are expected to participate in a luncheon and prayer gathering at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Dallas.
The May 3 event will feature Baylor alumni Troy Dungan, chief meteorologist for WFAA-TV in Dallas, and Neal Jeffrey, a minister at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, and former quarterback of the championship-winning 1974 Baylor Bears. Chris and Diane Machen, professional recording artists and also Baylor alumni, will present special music at the nondenominational event.
"One of our goals is to lift up the name of Jesus and for the Baylor family to be encouraged," said Mark Wiggins, chair of the event's steering committee and a former Baylor recruiter. The group also will pray for Baylor, Dallas and national leaders.
He said he hopes the cross-generational gathering can become an annual occurrence. "This could grow into a national event -- local Baylor communities, wherever they are, participating," he said. "This is very much a uniting event."
