Ways You Can Help

Adult Volunteer Opportunities:

Concierge Desk:
Volunteers at the concierge desk welcome visitors, provide information, give directions, answer questions and assist visitors with a variety of needs. These volunteers are courteous, personable and knowledgeable of the museum. They are able to answer questions about events and exhibits in the museum.


  • Must be a "people person".
  • Not afraid to ask questions.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods.
  • Adapt to slow and busy periods.
  • Work well with others.
  • Be a good communicator.
  • Be knowledgeable of the museum and the surrounding community.

Tour Guide:
Tour Guides lead groups of visitors throughout the museum. They explain exhibits and demonstrate hands-on stations to enhance the visitor experience. Tour Guides are scheduled on "as needed" basis.


  • Must be able to walk for 45 minutes.
  • Must have good hearing and listening skills.
  • Must be able to speak to an audience.
  • Knowledgeable about all areas of the museum.
  • Friendly and personable.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Must be flexible.
  • Able to demonstrate hands-on exhibits.

Large School Group Guides:
Occasionally schools will bring large groups who wish to tour the museum. These groups are often separated into smaller, more manageable groups to facilitate a better museum experience. Our group guides are positioned throughout the museum to assist these groups with questions, directions and any other needs.


  • Must be able to stand for approximately two hours.
  • Knowledgeable of all areas of the museum.
  • Able to give accurate directions.
  • Friendly and personable.
  • Not afraid to seek help and ask questions.
  • Good problem solver.
  • Able to demonstrate and explain hands-on exhibits.
  • Should have good hearing and listening skills.

Gallery Guide:
Gallery Guides are called upon to work the special traveling exhibits in our Exhibit Gallery. They receive special training about the exhibit. Gallery Guides interact with visitors to the exhibit and are able to answer questions related to the material on display. Traveling exhibits are open only during certain times of the year and Gallery Guides sign up to cover shifts in the exhibit.

Special Activity Days:
There is no telling what you might be doing on one of these fun filled days. It might simply be smiling and giving directions or you could be asked to dress in costume and demonstrate the proper technique for churning butter! The volunteer duties will vary according to the event. One thing is certain, you will are sure to have a lot of fun!
