To receive full consideration for admission to the Department of Geology graduate program all applications must be completed by January 25. Baylor University offers both the M. S. and Ph.D. degree in geology. To be qualified for admission to graduate study the student must have completed a bachelor's degree in geology or related discipline with an overall grade-point average of 2.7 and 3.0 in the major. The GRE test is required. Requirements for the master's degree are 30 semester hours of graduate courses including 6 semester hours of thesis. A minimum of 12 semester hours (excluding thesis hours) must be 5000-level courses. The Ph.D. degree requires a minimum of 60 hours beyond the bachelor's degree. See the Graduate Catalog for details.

An applicant for the Master of Arts degree in earth science must have a 2.7 overall undergraduate grade point average. In addition, the student must have eighteen (18) hours of course work in the physical or natural sciences including physical and historical geology. The GRE test is required. Candidates for graduation must complete 30 semester hours of graduate courses including 6 semester hours of thesis. A minimum of 12 semester hours (excluding thesis hours) must be 5000-level courses.
