The Center for Global Engagement seeks to coordinate and facilitate the efforts of individuals and groups throughout the campus to transform the world through international travel, research, and study, through the development of greater cultural competency and understanding, and through support for an increasingly diverse campus community.

The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Office provides guidance and support to those at Baylor who have an F-1 visa or J-1 visa, helping them with their initial transition to Baylor and their connection to the Baylor experience.
Global Baylor recognizes that students who are both academically and cross-culturally prepared should be able to adapt and succeed in a diverse and multicultural world.
Our program provides a pathway for students who are fully qualified to enter Baylor University undergraduate programs but still need to improve their English.
For globally-minded students who want a non-traditional start to their freshman college experience, the Baylor Global Scholars program is a unique four-year educational and professional development opportunity.

With almost 25 years of experience in international education, Debra Wainscott has found her calling as an international student academic support specialist.
Wainscott taught English in China for several years before coming to Baylor, where she began working as a lecturer for the Global Gateway Program in January 2019.
Wainscott said she started to notice that students who finished the Global Gateway Program still needed academic support after they were fully enrolled at Baylor. As a result, the International Student Academic Support Office was created in partnership with the Center for Academic Success and Engagement, with Wainscott as the main point of contact.
Currently entering its fifth year, the Certificate in Global Engagement is giving over 400 students an official outlet to explore multicultural opportunities and become globally focused.
Raphael Abayateye, assistant director for global engagement, described the program as a way to develop “global leaders” and “cultural humility and competence.”
“[The certificate gives] opportunities that would help students interact with other cultures and other people who just have a different way of doing things and perspectives different from them,” Abayateye said.
The certificate has three requirements: intercultural events, global courses and practical involvement, and international experience.
Baylor is home to students from all around the world, and the Global Gateway Program is designed to support those for whom English is a second language.
Dr. Cornell Menking, director of the Global Gateway Program, has been with the program since its inception over five years ago. He said it was started in partnership with Study Group to “create a pipeline for international students.”
