About American Studies

American Studies is a relatively new intellectual endeavor that encompasses a variety of disciplines. At Baylor University, American Studies is offered as both an undergraduate and graduate program. Students are able to shape their studies around American culture and ultimately choose their path within a university setting.

The many disciplines concerned with American culture include communications, history, literature, museum studies, political science, religion as well as many other areas.

American Studies also allows teachers to expand their interests beyond an academic specialty and allows students majoring in American Studies to study a wide array of American life. The faculty members and students approach American culture from many directions but have in common the desire to view America as a whole rather from the perspective of a single discipline.
