Baylor University’s Truett Seminary Master of Divinity student Elizabeth Perkins has been nominated by the Truett faculty to preach at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas on February 27 at 6:00pm for Martha Stearns Marshall Month of Preaching.

“Her sermon was one of the best student sermons I have heard in 14 years,” said Dr. Joel Gregory, Professor of Preaching, of Perkins’ time in his introductory preaching class. “Precise exposition, vivid narrative, personal illustrations, and pointed application join with an engaging delivery to produce a profound moment of preaching."

“I feel very honored to be nominated to preach because I have the utmost respect for our Truett faculty,” Perkins said. “Learning under Truett faculty has developed me as a student and practitioner, as well as my own personal spiritual growth. Their belief in me inspires me to study and share God’s Word to the best of my abilities.”

Since 2007, Baptist Women in Ministry has encouraged Baptist churches to participate in Martha Stearns Marshall Month of Preaching by inviting women to preach during the month of February. Broadway Baptist, in addition to being one of hundreds of churches who participate in this tradition, has also made it a point to invite female seminary students in particular to preach.

"Martha Stearns Marshall Month of Preaching is a time for us to proclaim that God calls both sons and daughters to preach," said Drew Herring, Minister of Adult Education & Outreach at Broadway Baptist. "We believe these sermons help us to more fully hear the voice of God in our midst, while also giving female seminarians opportunities to gain practical experience and be affirmed in their gifts."

“I am grateful to Broadway Baptist for this invitation and also to be able to study within a community that affirms and celebrates my call to ministry,” Perkins said. “Truett has provided many opportunities for me to exercise my gifts and explore the ways I can use those gifts to serve God. The opportunity to participate in Martha Stearns Marshall Month of Preaching is another way that my Truett community is celebrating my unique gifts and calling.”
