Lectures & Events

During the fall 2018 semester, Truett Seminary hosted numerous lectures and events. This included the annual Leo and Gloriana Parchman Endowed Lectures, featuring Professor of Philosophy and Holder of the Gary and Henrietta Byker Chair in Applied Reformed Theology and Worldview at Calvin College Dr. James K.A. Smith, and the Minette and Huber Lelland Drumwright Jr. Endowed Lectures in New Testament Studies, featuring Professor of New Testament at the University of Zurich Dr. Jörg Frey. Truett was also thrilled to host Fernando Ortega, contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter, for a special concert in October.

Faculty Searches

In anticipation of the retirement of Dr. Ron Cook, Associate Professor of Christian Scriptures, and Dr. Lai Ling Ngan, Associate Professor of Christian Scriptures, at the end of the spring 2019 semester, Truett began two faculty searches in the fall of 2018. The Seminary is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Christian Scriptures (Old Testament) and an Assistant Professor of Practical Theology. The search committees for the two openings are led by Associate Professor of Christian Scriptures Dr. Andy Arterbury and Holder of the M.C. Shook Chair of Missions and Professor Dr. Mike Stroope, respectively.

On Friday, December 14, 2018, the Truett family celebrated the graduation of 29 students, including three Master of Theological Studies students, two Master of Arts in Christian Ministry students, and 24 Master of Divinity students. The commencement ceremony was held at First Baptist Church, Waco, and Dr. R. Robert Creech, Professor of Christian Ministries, Holder of the Hubert H. and Gladys S. Raborn Professor of Pastoral Leadership, and Director of Pastoral Ministries, delivered a message to the graduates. Photos from the December 2018 commencement events can be found on the Truett Seminary Facebook page.
