In the Spring of 2018, Truett conducted a brief survey of students and alumni measuring their interest and assessing the need for an expansion of youth ministry offerings at the seminary. In response, Dean Todd D. Still gathered several dozen ministry leaders and staff for a full day of collaborative conversations dialoguing about future hopes for a Youth Ministry center at Truett Seminary. As a result, enhanced partnerships between Ministry Guidance, Spiritual Life, and the Seminary are already taking place, and steps have been initiated to offer more support and opportunity for those committed to reaching the next generation with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This coming January, Jake Mulder, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Fuller Youth Institute in Pasadena, California will join Truett's own Dr. Grear Howard, Assistant Dean of Student Services, to teach the J-Term course "Essentials in Youth Ministry." Mulder partnered with Kara Powell to write Growing Young: Six Essential Strategies to Help Young People Discover and Love Your Church. His wealth of knowledge and breadth of research in youth ministry across denominations and diverse populations of America will bring a distinctive benefit to this course. In addition, on Thursday, January 10, Mulder will be the guest speaker at the “Growing Young Luncheon” at 11:30 AM at the Baylor Club. Registration for the luncheon will open in November.
Also in 2019, Dr. Grear Howard will lead a group of Truett and undergraduate Baylor students on a trip to Germany for a May-mester course titled "Discipleship and Evangelism with Youth."
