Meet the Director

The M.A. in Theology and Sports Studies is directed by Paul Putz, Ph.D. Dr. Putz came to Truett Seminary in 2019 from Messiah College, where he was a Lecturer in American History. At Truett, Putz helps to oversee online initiatives and programs for the Faith & Sports Institute.

After more than a decade teaching in high school, college, and professional education contexts, Dr. Putz is an experienced and effective educator. He received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Grace University, where he played basketball. He also has an M.A. and a Ph.D. in history with a focus on sports, Christianity, and American culture. His first academic book is under contract with Oxford University Press, and his writing for popular audiences has been featured at Christianity Today, Religion & Politics, Slate, The Gospel Coalition, and Religion News Service (among others).
