Commencement Information

As announced by Baylor University on July 13, 2020, in-person graduation ceremonies honoring August 2020 graduates have been canceled.

From Dean Todd Still:

Dear Truett Family,

I am writing to inform you that we will not be able to hold our scheduled commencement exercises on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Waco. Yesterday, Baylor announced the cancellation of “in-person graduation ceremonies honoring August 2020 graduates Aug. 14-15 due to a surge in cases and hospitalizations related to COVID-19 across Texas and the nation.” While prudent and altogether appropriate, this announcement comes as a disappointment to many of us.

In place of our summer commencement, the University will host a virtual ceremony on Saturday, August 15, to honor May and August 2020 graduates. The University’s virtual graduation event will be hosted on Facebook Live beginning at 10 a.m. on August 15 and will feature musical performances, remarks from academic leadership, and words of encouragement and hope from President Livingstone. Then, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the names of the August graduates will be presented on the video board in the south endzone of McLane Stadium and will also be broadcast as part of the Facebook Live event.

Additionally, as we did for our May graduates and will do for our December graduates, I will host a Zoom gathering for our August graduates so that they might see one another and share with one another their immediate plans and pressing prayer concerns. Faculty and staff will be invited to gather with us. An invitation for this session, replete with relevant details, will soon follow.

Our next in-person graduation exercise is expected to be held in May 2021. Those graduating in 2020 are invited to participate in this or any future commencement ceremony that fits their schedule. We simply ask that you let us know our your planned participation so that we might plan accordingly.

In the meantime, thank you for your flexibility, patience, and prayers as we seek to love and to serve one another, others, and the LORD who has grasped and gifted us for gospel work and witness. We give God thanks concerning you. Please do not hesitate to be in touch if I can be of any help at all.

Warmly and truly yours in Christ,

Todd
