Sports Ministry Program

Sports Ministry Program

Vision: To be a faithful presence of Christ in the culture of sport for the good of local communities and the glory of God.

The culture of sport needs Christian sportspersons, leaders, families, communities, and ministers apprehended and shaped by the whole gospel. Christians should be thinking about the gospel and its implications for sports, a theological task and practical responsibility. To attend responsibly to this matter, George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University has launched a Sports Chaplaincy/Ministry program which addresses how to live and work practically in sports in a manner worthy of the gospel.

We aim to educate and prepare students to be chaplains and ministry leaders in and through the local church or sports leaders who integrate their Christian faith charitably into the world of sports. Integral to this purpose is the formation of Christian intellectual and moral virtues which we practice in a community of learners committed to the Lordship of Christ and the authority of Scripture. Whether you are beginning in sports ministry or a seasoned veteran, we invite you to join us to go deeper as the church for the good of people and the glory of God.

"No matter what my ministry context may be in the future, my classes in the Sports Chaplaincy concentration have helped me to always be asking, 'What will it look like for God’s redemption to be accomplished here?'"
