Bearathon Course Information

Due to I-35 Highway expansion work and significant municipal construction, race route options were slightly limited this year. However, race planners have worked closely with construction and city representatives to identify courses that are safe, fun and challenging.
Courses posted here are subject to slight alterations to accommodate changes to nearby construction timelines.

The Bearathon (Half Marathon)

Start Time: 7:00 AM

End time: 12:00 p.m. (allowing for 18 minute/mile pace)

The course of the Bearathon starts and finishes at McLane Stadium and will highlight Baylor’s campus, downtown Waco, Cameron Park and the Brazos River.

Timing chips will be used for an accurate measure of your time. Timing chips will be located in your race bib. Please follow proper instructions in handling your timing chip. If you do not properly care for it, you may not receive accurate results or any results at all. Moreover, if you choose not to wear a bib, you cannot be considered for an award, and you will not be included in any results. 

All half marathon finishers will receive a finisher's shirt and a medal.

Awards:  Open Division (overall) winners (both male and female) of the half marathon will be awarded $500 for first place, $400 for second place, and $300 for third place. Prize money of $300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place will also be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in three (3) other divisions: Baylor Student Division, Baylor Faculty & Staff Division, and Master's Division (ages 40+).  

In addition, engraved gold Bearathon medals will be mailed to the top three male and female finishers in the following divisions of the Bearathon half marathon race:  Baylor students, 15-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+.


The Sic 'Em 6K

Start Time: 8:00 AM

End time: 12:00 p.m. 

The Sic 'Em 6K run starts and ends at McLane Stadium – the same location as the Bearathon – and will follow the Brazos River. The 6K is an out-and-back course, with a U-turn at the intersection of Bosque BLVD. and University Parks Dr.

If you do not properly care for it, you may not receive accurate results or any results at all. Moreover, if you choose not to wear a bib, you cannot be considered for an award, and you will not be included in any results. 

6K Run finishers will receive a finisher's shirt.


Course Restrictions
  • Dogs are allowed in the 6K but not that half marathon. Dogs must be leashed at all times. Owner must be prepared to clean up after his or her pet.
  • No bicycles, no inline skates, no roller skates, and no wheeled vehicles.
  • Strollers are permitted for the 6K only
  • Runners are prohibited from taking alternative routes during the race - remain along the marked course

Violators may be disqualified and removed from the course by a Student Foundation representative or law enforcement personnel.


Course Markings

The course will be marked with signage for mileage, refuel stations, aid stations, restrooms, etc.

The route will be designated by chalk blazes along the ground, barricades, cones and other physical markers.
