WACO, Texas (May 11, 2012) - After nearly two years of planning that included the active participation of faculty, students, staff, alumni and a community of friends throughout the nation, Baylor University Regents today unanimously approved a new strategic vision named Pro Futuris that will guide the University's path over the next decade. The vision will go into effect on June 1, 2012.

In accordance with the schedule established when we launched our strategic visioning exercise nearly two years ago, we have now concluded the feedback portion of our process. The draft of the vision has been further modified based on the most recent community feedback and a final version of our plan will be voted upon by Baylor Regents at their next meeting, May 11.

Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business will confer its first PhD in Information Systems on candidate Janice Lo during formal commencement in May. Lo successfully defended her dissertation "A Theory of Information Systems Strategy: Antecedents and Performance Impacts Through the Development of Dynamic Capabilities," on Feb. 2, 2012.

At its February meeting, the Baylor University Board of Regents approved two new master's degree programs, a master of arts in Christian ministry at George W. Truett Theological Seminary to assist primarily second-career students as they pursue church ministry, and a joint master's of social work/master's of business administration degree program through the Baylor School of Social Work and Hankamer School of Business. Board members also authorized $2.9 million in maintenance and capital projects, and heard a number of reports, including an update on the university's Strategic Plan.

According to schedule, following approval by the Baylor University Board of Regents at its 2011 homecoming meeting, the university has published an online draft of its 10-year strategic plan. The University is inviting the Baylor community to review the draft plan and provide feedback. As a continuation of its strategic planning process, Baylor officials will hold on-campus meetings to consider the plan publicly and more fully. Comments and suggestions will be accepted on the strategic planning website through March, and the plan will be finalized at the end of the fiscal year in May.

Following a nationwide search, Dr. Shelley F. Conroy, Ed.D., M.S., R.N., has been named as the new dean of the Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) at Baylor University. Her appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Baylor Athletics has released an architectural rendering of an on-campus, riverfront football stadium, as an outgrowth of the University's on-going strategic planning process, and will conduct a fan survey and feasibility study that is expected to be completed next month.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 4, 2011) - At its annual Homecoming meeting today, the Baylor University Board of Regents approved $120 million in capital improvements, the largest investment in construction on the Baylor campus since the Baylor Sciences Building in 2004. Construction will be financed through the issuance of bonds and will include a new 700-bed residential complex and dining facility on the east side of campus, the renovation of the Marrs McLean Science Building and Phase 2 of initial construction on academic and research space in the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC).

Dr. Jean Bethke Elshtain, one of America's foremost public intellectuals and recent recipient of the prestigious Democracy Service Medal from the National Endowment for Democracy, has joined the Baylor University faculty as Visiting Distinguished Professor of Religion and Public Life at Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR). She will present a lecture at Baylor on Oct. 19.
