Professional Opportunities in Waco
Baylor University has many opportunities for PhD students to thrive clinically. The Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities (BCDD) houses several clinics that focus on the developmental needs of children and adolescents. The Baylor Autism Resource Clinic (BARC) is housed in the BCDD and is coordinated by Dr. Kelsey Ragan, a licensed psychologist with her PhD in school psychology. The BARC provides opportunities for PhD students to participate in psychological and psychoeducational assessments, social skills groups, Autism assessments, and research.
The BCDD has an ongoing relationship with McLane Children's Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX - approximately 30 miles south of Waco. Over the past several years, the BCDD and McLane Children’s has collaborated on research and professional training projects. The school psychology program also has a positive relationship with many school districts (known as independent school districts or ISD’s in Texas) in the area including but not limited to Waco ISD, Midway ISD, China Spring ISD, and Lorena ISD. Practice in the public schools is another opportunity for doctoral students to receive clinical preparation with children and adolescents.
There are many other collaborative opportunities in Waco including the Methodist Home, Baylor's Speech and Hearing Clinic, the Bill Logue Juvenile Detention Center, and the Talitha Koum Institute.
