Services & Areas of Service

Texas shapeWHERE WE SERVE:

Caregiver Coaching is available only within the state of Texas.

WHOM WE SERVE:

Families who live in Texas and have a child, age birth to 17 years old, diagnosed with autism

SERVICES:
Therapy sessions:

Families participate in sessions in their homes. The therapists are on Baylor University’s campus and provide coaching to parents and caregivers using video technology. Parents help select goals for the child, and then therapists develop an individualized intervention program and provide coaching to help parents and caregivers implement the intervention.

Technology:

Baylor provides all needed technology for the duration of the project, or families can use their own technology.

TYPES OF SKILLS THERAPISTS WORK ON DURING THE PROGRAM:
  • Adaptive skills: skills that help an individual become more independent, such as brushing teeth and tying shoes
  • Communication skills: skills that help an individual communicate with those around them, such as communicating what the child wants and engaging in conversation
  • Social Skills: skills that help an individual interact with those around them, such as playing board games or playing with toys
  • Pre-Academic skills:- skills that promote learning such as identifying colors and naming letters
  • Overcoming challenging or problem behavior*: interventions to reduce challenging behavior, such as aggression, self-injury, property destruction, and tantrums

*Some children who engage in problem behavior that is too severe may not be appropriate for the program, due to safety concerns. Therapists will talk with families about whether this program is appropriate for the child, based on the nature of the problem behavior.
