Matt Peters joined the SMU Athletics in the summer of 2014 and currently serves as the Associate AD for Development. In his role, he manages the fundraising efforts for the department which include capital projects, endowments, and annual giving. During his time at SMU, the athletic department’s annual fund has experienced a growth of 66% in annual giving while also opening the SMU Tennis Complex and the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center. He has also led, or been involved with, the fundraising efforts for the Aquatics Center and the Indoor Performance Center, as well as many other capital project initiatives. The SMU Athletics Department was a key contributor to the University’s $1.15 billion Second Century Campaign which concluded in 2015.
In addition to fundraising, he has been selected to participate in SMU’s inaugural “Emerging Leaders Program” which provides an opportunity for select staff members to develop and refine their leadership skills. He has also been assigned sport administrator duties for the men’s and women’s golf programs.
Prior to his time at SMU, Peters worked in the development office at Texas State University. Before making a career change to collegiate athletics, Peters spent seven years working in the tech sector as an electrical engineer.
Peters earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University, and a Master’s in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco.
