We can't let 100 years of history, excellence and innovation go by without celebrating!
We began Jan. 29 by hosting the Dr Pepper Hour, following up the fun in February with free blooms on Valentine's Day, and a visit and lecture from esteemed scholar and educator Dr. Maria Franquiz, an expert in bilingual education. On March 22 we hosted a Centennial Birthday Party on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the School of Education, and on April 5 we surprised our students with a "Coffee and Donuts" Pop Up. Later in April, we celebrated our seniors at a banquet at the Baylor stadium, where we presented Waco teacher Cathy Henson with the Centennial Outstanding Mentor Award. Two events followed in May: a "Study Break" Pop Up in the Moody Library just before finals, and a week later a Graduation Reception attended by seniors and their loved ones in the courtyard outside Marrs McLean Science. In June and July, we had a soft opening of our Centennial SOE Exhibit at the Mayborn Museum. Be sure to check it out if you can, we think you'll enjoy it. Recently, we ushered in August with a Mix 'n' Mingle event for our incoming freshman, and on September 23 we bid farewell to summer with a surprise Popsicle Pop Up outside the SOE building. We are so happy to have the class of 2023 — and all our students — on campus.
In September we awarded the Centennial Outstanding Alumni and the Centennial Outstanding Young Alumni during a reception at the Mayborn Museum honoring our scholars and donors. And, of course, in October we celebrated Homecoming with a tailgate inside the Marrs McLean courtyard following the Homecoming parade. In November we surprised our students, and especially our seniors, with a surprise Donuts and Coffee Pop Up on a Friday in Marrs-McLean Science.
