Susan Benton

Doctoral Candidate (New Testament)

As Susan Benton considers the New Testament program at Baylor, she conveys her appreciation not only for the research strengths of faculty but for their intentionality in structuring seminars to yield fruitful, current, and ultimately publishable research for graduate students. “Classes have produced really useful work for a lot of people.” She notes as another core strength the program’s configuration of Old Testament and New Testament as cognate fields, which has allowed her own New Testament research to be informed by a serious appreciation of the Old Testament and sharpened by the input of colleagues in companion disciplines. These colleagues, just as importantly, are proactively committed to one another’s success and well-being. Susan wants prospective students to know, finally, that Waco is an enjoyable and dynamic place to live, including for families. “And you can buy a house on the stipend!”
