Anna Wells

Doctoral Candidate (Historical Studies)

As she enters her second year in the Historical Studies concentration, Anna Wells prepares to serve as Academic Chair for Baylor’s Graduate Student Association, directing research showcases and seeking out new ways to connect graduate students and their work across the university. Within the Religion Department Anna has found significant capacity to promote student research, teaching, and professional development, which she draws on in weekly meetings with her advisor and mentor through the Wabash Teaching Initiative. If she has a message for prospective students, it is to underline how far departmental faculty and administrators are willing to go to tailor the program to particular student interests, in her case to the point of arranging a correspondence course in Ethiopic for her very first semester in the program. From the beginning of Anna’s personal and professional experience with Baylor faculty, there was “always an open door... and that was a real offer.”
