Kathryn Rempe graduated in May 2019 with a BSPH. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Global Health from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. She recently wrote:
Hello from Scotland! It is hard to believe that I am almost halfway through my master’s program here at the University of Glasgow. Courses in the MSc of Global Health program have been difficult but Baylor and the Public Health department prepared me so well for this, I feel I have an advantage over some students because of my studies.
She will spend her summer working on her thesis and conducting primary data collection in Kenya.
I have been given the opportunity to travel to Nairobi, Kenya this summer to conduct primary research for my project. My topic is on nutrition knowledge, attitudes and practices among primary school children in the Mukuru slum outside of Nairobi. If you would have told me last year that I would be given this amazing opportunity I would have never believed you. I am beyond ecstatic (and very nervous) about collecting my own primary data and being in charge of my own research. These next few weeks I will be drafting proposals and completing ethical paperwork for the University as well as Kenya’s own policies. Although I have learned a lot in my short time here in Glasgow, it is Baylor that has given me the confidence to move forward. Thank you for everything you did for me during my undergraduate career. I know that I wouldn’t be here today without my family in the Public Health department.
We are so proud of Kathryn and look forward to hearing about all her adventures in public health!
