Organizational Change for Constituent Engagement

August 17, 2017

Dear Faculty and Staff:

Vice President for Constituent Engagement Tommye Lou Davis has been an institution on the Baylor University campus for 48 years, from teaching Latin to generations of our students to leading thousands of alumni and outreach initiatives for the Baylor Family. Over the past several weeks, Tommye Lou and I have discussed the possibility of her returning to the classroom to teach and serve our students directly, which she cites as her first love.

After much prayer and many conversations between both of us, Tommye Lou will transition from her vice president’s role effective September 30, 2017. After a well-deserved sabbatical, Tommye Lou will return to a faculty position as an associate professor in the Department of Classics within the College of Arts and Sciences in Fall 2018.

A Baylor graduate, Tommye Lou has held several academic and administrative leadership roles within the University, including chief of staff to the president on two occasions and associate dean of the Honors College. In her current position over constituent engagement, she leads Baylor’s comprehensive alumni relations program and other outreach initiatives to engage the Baylor Family and the greater Waco community.

Despite her many honors and advocacy efforts on behalf of Baylor throughout her career, Tommye Lou always goes back to her work with students. She joined the Baylor faculty in 1966 and received numerous teaching awards throughout her career, including the designation as a Master Teacher. Additionally, she has served for 28 years as faculty advisor for Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, a role which she will continue.

As we move forward, I have asked Vice President for Development Dave Rosselli to oversee the Division of Constituent Engagement on an interim basis following Tommye Lou’s transition.

Please join me in thanking Tommye Lou for her nearly five decades of service to Baylor as we wish her well in this next chapter of her career on behalf of the Baylor Family.

Sincerely,

Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D.
President
