Baylor Extends Sympathy to Family of Construction Worker

January 29, 2014

Dear Baylor Family,

As you may already know, at approximately 4 p.m. yesterday, two men working on the pedestrian bridge at McLane Stadium fell from a construction barge into the Brazos River. One of the workers surfaced and was immediately taken to Providence Health Center where he was treated for hypothermia and later released. Waco Police and Waco Fire Department initiated a recovery mission for the second worker and later located the body of Jose Dario Suarez, who was pronounced deceased at 8:18 p.m.

This is a terrible tragedy that saddens us all. It is at difficult times like these that we are encouraged to remember that we serve a loving God who cares for the brokenhearted and is near to the downcast.

In an official University statement I have expressed our deepest sympathies to the Suarez family. I know that you will join me in continuing to remember in prayer Jose Suarez and all those whom he loved.
