Baylor To Hold Winter Commencement Dec. 18

Baylor University will confer degrees on nearly 800 Baylor students during commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, in the Ferrell Center, 1900 S. University Parks Dr.

The ceremony will honor graduates from Baylor's College of Arts and Sciences, Hankamer School of Business, School of Education, School of Engineering and Computer Science, Louise Herrington School of Nursing, School of Music, School of Social Work and the Graduate School.

The bearer of the mace will be Dr. Rita Sutherland Purdy, who served as professor of family and consumer sciences at Baylor from 1996-2009. Dary Stone, JD '77, chair of the Board of Regents, will bring greetings, while President Ken Starr will deliver the traditional message to the graduates.

Baylor will provide live streaming of the winter ceremony, so families and friends of graduates who are unable to travel to Waco can watch their graduate receive his/her diploma. A link to the live stream will be available 10 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony at www.baylor.edu/commencement.

Commencement exercises for graduates of Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at First Baptist Church of Waco, 500 Webster Ave.

The ceremony will honor students from graduate seminary programs. The bearer of the mace will be Dr. Glenn O. Hilburn, professor emeritus of religion. Dr. W. Dennis Tucker Jr., associate professor of Christian scriptures and associate dean for academic affairs, will bring the welcome and introductions, while Dr. David E. Wilhite, assistant professor of Christian theology, will deliver the message to the graduates.

Commencement exercises have taken place annually since 1854. During that time Baylor University has graduated more than 145,000 students.
