Pattie Orr to serve four-year term on leading association for IT leaders in higher education

Pattie Orr, vice president for information technology and dean of university libraries at Baylor University, has been elected to the board of directors for EDUCAUSE, the foremost association for information technology leaders and professionals committed to advancing higher education. Elected by the association's membership, Orr will begin her four-year term on Jan. 1, 2010.

At Baylor, Orr leads the university-wide information technology organization that provides administrative and academic technology services, technology infrastructure, and library services and support for the university's digital assets. She also chairs the Baylor University Sustainability Committee.

Because information technology plays a transformative role in higher education, EDUCAUSE programs and services are focused on analysis, advocacy, community building, professional development and knowledge creation. EDUCAUSE supports those who lead manage, and use information technology through a comprehensive range of resources and activities.

"I am honored to represent the members of EDUCAUSE on its board of directors," Orr said. "I believe my diverse background and current position will augment the skills and experience on the board and allow me to help EDUCAUSE advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology in a sustainable environment."

In addition to Orr, David Lassner of the University of Hawaii was elected to the EDUCAUSE board.

"Given their consistent leadership and commitment to advancing the role of technology in higher education, we are fortunate to welcome Pattie Orr and David Lassner to the EDUCAUSE board," said EDUCAUSE President Diana Oblinger. "Their knowledge and insight will help ensure EDUCAUSE continues to evolve in ways that best serve its members and higher education in general."

A 2000 Frye Leadership Institute Fellow, Orr's service to EDUCAUSE includes her current membership on the association's Professional Development Committee, previous role as chair of the EDUCAUSE Membership Committee and past membership on the faculty of the EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program. She currently sits on both the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Steering Committee and the EDUCAUSE/Cornell Institute for Computer Policy and Law (ICPL) Advisory Board. Previously a member of the board of the Northeast Regional Computing Program (NERCOMP), Orr now serves on the boards of the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN), the Texas Digital Library, and Texas Women in Higher Education.

Orr holds a B.S. in education from Abilene Christian University, a master's degree in education from Lesley University and is pursuing a doctorate in higher education administration. She joined Baylor in 2007 from Wellesley College, where she served as director of user services and the policy and planning officer in the information services division.
