After Dark 2007 to Showcase Baylor Talent

After Dark, the All University variety show, will feature the talent of Baylor students at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, in Waco Hall.
As part of Parents Weekend events, After Dark 2007 will showcase 17 acts and include group performances, solo performances, singing, instrumental music, dance and comedy, said Brittany Temple, graduate assistant for Special Performances. This year's show has a few returning performers as well as some new additions.
"They are all stand-outs. We have a twirler, classical ballerina, a tap dancer and several musicians who will perform original songs," Temple said.
Clinton Pickens, a 2003 Baylor alumnus, will host the talent show.
The talent show will feature:
?Brant Taylor, Megan Nichols, Colin Campbell, Bobby McCullagh and Tye Barrett (vocal and band performance): "Everything" by Michael Bublé;
?DJ Sherrill and Jonathon Wimpy, with accompanist Stephen Variames (vocal performance): "Lily's Eyes" from "the Secret Garden" by Lucy Simon;
?Denise Hearn (vocal and guitar performance): Psalm 8;
?Jenny Abamu (poetry): I'm Subject to Change;
?Kristen Warren, with accompanist Daniel Gingerich (vocal and guitar performance): "Over the Rainbow" by E.Y. Harburg and Harold Arlen;
?Amanda Miller (ballet): Classical Ballet en Pointe;
?Hana Manal, with choreography by Barbara Ryan (tap): Devil in the Deep Blue Sea;
?Mohammad Islam and Mehran Younis (hip hop): The Rickshaw Ryders;
?Cody "The Sarge" Green, Ayrc "Blackbird" Lane, Ann "All you need is" Payne and Maryn "In the Sky" Riley (cello quartet): "When I'm 64" by Paul McCartney, arranged for cello quartet by Cody Green;
?Sarah Rocha, Anne Strickland and Michael Gasparro (vocal and band performance): "Fever" by John Davenport and Eddie Cooley, additional lyrics by Peggy Lee;

The 7 p.m. performance will announce the recipients of The First Families of Baylor award and Baylor University's Parents of the Year award.
Tickets are available for $10, $12 and $14 at the Ticket Office in the Bill Daniel Student Center and online, Temple said.
Students auditioned for a panel of judges Sept. 17 and 18. Temple said many students auditioned, and event coordinators chose acts based on talent and variety.
After Dark is part of the tradition of Parents Weekend. The annual talent review show has been around since the early 1980s, Temple said.
"After Dark gives student performers a chance to really showcase their individual talents to the Baylor and Waco communities," Temple said. "The auditions are open to any student, and we see a greater diversity in students who are interested in this show versus Pigskin, Sing or Stomp Fest."
Temple said the performers help the Baylor and Waco communities appreciate the vast amount of talent that is represented in the Baylor student body.
