Baylor Professor Named Association for Information Systems Fellow

Dr. Dorothy Leidner, director of the Center for Information Systems Research in the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, was recently named an Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Shanghai.

The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Information Systems discipline in terms of research, teaching and service on regional, national and global levels. As well as exhibiting high levels of professional and personal integrity, AIS Fellows are role models and an inspiration to colleagues and students within the discipline and respected by interested individuals outside the discipline.

Leidner, who also is director of the information systems PhD program at Baylor, said she is grateful to have received the award.

"It signifies that the research that I have published over the past 20 years has had a marked impact on my field," Leidner said. "It is very nice to be recognized by a large association and to have one's work acknowledged and commended."

After earning her bachelor's degree from the Plan II honors program at the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, Leidner received her master's degree in business administration in 1988 and her doctoral degree in information systems in 1992 from UT-Austin. Her research, which has been cited more than 10,000 times, includes knowledge management, virtual teams and the use of IT education. She has given seminars and presentations at more than 50 universities around the world.

AIS is the premier global organization for academics specializing in information systems. Founded in 1994, it is an international professional society of 4,000 members from 90 countries and a key player in the advancement of the IS academic community. The AIS Fellow award was established in 1999 by the Council of the AIS and the Executive Committee of the ICIS.
