Philosophy Department Graduate Appointed Federal Judicial Clerk

October 13, 2011
Philosophy department graduate, Dr. Michael A. Cantrell, was recently selected as a federal judicial clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Federal judicial clerks are attorneys who work closely with individual Article III federal judges and provide legal analyses of questions arising under federal law or under state law between parties of diverse states. The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit is the court of final decision for over 99% of appeals from federal district courts and state supreme courts in Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota.

Dr. Cantrell had this to say:

"Needless to say, I am thrilled, and very thankful for this honor. It is a rare opportunity to work so closely with a federal Court of Appeals judge. The rigorous reasoning and research skills I developed in the Baylor program will be invaluable to me in this position."
