Work and Education
Dr. Petty is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON). She teaches in the baccalaureate (traditional and FastBacc® tracks), masters, and doctoral degree programs. She teaches full-time in academic nursing education and has done so since 2009. She facilitates courses in the face-to-face, online, clinical practicum, and lab settings, and mentors faculty. Prior to joining Baylor University in 2016, Dr. Petty was an Associate Professor and Program Director of an accelerated BSN program in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  She is an Adult-Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her clinical practice includes roles as a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist, manager of multiple peri-anesthesia units, director and provider at a community clinic, and bedside critical care nursing. 

Committees
Dr. Petty’s service to the University includes membership on the University Grievance Committee.  She is also Chair of the LHSON Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and an active member of various other school of nursing committees - Faculty, Missions, and Program Effectiveness; undergraduate committees - Level II, Level IV, and Undergraduate Academic Policies; and graduate level committees - MSN, DNP, and Graduate Studies.

Articles, Publications and Presentations
Dr. Petty was honored to present Powerful Impact of Family Diaries in a Cardiothoracic Transplant Intensive Care Unit at Sigma Theta Tau International's (STTI) 29th International Nursing Research Congress in Melbourne, Australia in July 2018.  The research was conducted in collaboration with professional research and bedside nurses at the Baylor University Medical Center. 

Her Doctor of Nursing Practice final project, Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Women: A Community-Based Intervention, received a second-place award in Innovations in Patient Care (2015) by the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association and her abstract was published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing (2016).  She was awarded the Kansas City Collaborative STTI Chapters Research Symposium’s Best Graduate Poster (2014).

Dr. Petty served as a reviewer of Content Storyboards for Sherpath Gerontological Nursing.  She was recognized as a subject matter expert and participated in a small team process to assess and improve course content by providing consulting services on modules in the curriculum.

Professional Organizations and Awards
Dr. Petty is an active member of numerous professional nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association, Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association, Texas Clinical Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, Texas Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International.  Dr. Petty serves as the Vice-President of the Eta Gamma chapter of Sigma.  She is also a member of the Chi Eta chapter, where as a founding member she served in both Counselor and Vice-President roles.  Dr. Petty was a previous member of the Kansas Action Coalition: Future of Nursing and the Kansas APRN Taskforce.

Community 
Dr. Petty is engaged in her local community.  She is an active member at Northplace Church, volunteering as a small group leader, in women’s ministry, and as a coffee shop cashier.  She advocates for the underprivileged with the Anti-Poverty Coalition of Greater Dallas and is a citizen volunteer on the Community Emergency Response Team in her community.

Dr. Petty facilitated a special topics course to provide nursing students with a multicultural experience by participating in a medical mission trip and interacting with Haitian clients who came to the community clinic.  She also taught a short-term course on basic and emergency first aid skills to community college students in Bangalore, India.
