Transfer Students - Academic Advising
As a new transfer student, you will have an academic advisor who will help you select and register for your first semester classes. There are a number of important items to take care of in order to prepare for and complete the advising and registration processes.
In addition to the following items, be sure to continue to check your goBaylor account for any pending steps you may need to complete.
Important Items to Complete
- Complete the New Student Advising Questionnaire
The Advising Questionnaire, which will be accessible through your goBaylor account, asks you to share information about any potential college credit you might be transferring to Baylor. This form is also where you can update your expected major.
- Submit Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination (BMV) documentation
At the current time, students MAY submit housing applications and register for classes prior to providing the required MCV4 documentation. However students MAY NOT move into the residence hall or attend class without providing proof of their current MCV4 Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination (Meningitis B vaccines are NOT accepted for this requirement) or an appropriate exemption form to the Health Services office.
You are highly encouraged to submit your documentation well in advance of your academic advising appointment. Visit the Health Center's website to learn more about the requirement and how to submit your documentation.
- Activate and regularly check your Baylor email account
Many offices and departments will be communicating important information to you as you prepare for your first semester, and most of this communication will be through your Baylor email. Be sure to activate your Bear ID and Baylor email account, then take steps to set up your Microsoft 365 applications on your computer and any other devices.
- Set up Duo on your mobile device
Baylor uses a security program called Duo to help protect students, faculty, and staff as they utilize many of the University’s technology resources. Duo is a two-factor authentication process that you will use when you access systems like Canvas, Bearweb, Box, and other systems.
You will need to set up Duo on your mobile device in order to complete the registration process. Learn about enrolling in Duo on the Information Technology Services website.
- Set up Navigate
You can now access Navigate services through the Navigate Student app. Make appointments with staff and faculty, see your class schedule, find out about important resources and much more! You can download this free app on at the Apple App Store, or Google Play Store.
- Take any needed Placement Exams
Baylor utilizes several Placement Exams to help ensure that you register for the classes that will be the best fit for you. Which Placement Exams you might need to take is based on:
- Your expected major and/or academic program
- Your ACT/SAT test scores
You will see information about Placement Exams in your goBaylor account. Learn more about Placement Exams on the University Advisement website.
- Send any prior academic credits
If you have achieved any prior college-level credits that you anticipate transferring to Baylor, it is best to have those sent to Baylor before your academic advising appointment. That will help you and your Advisor build the class schedule that will be right for you. Learn more about transferring credits to Baylor on the Undergraduate Admissions website.
- Coordinate an appointment time with your academic advisor
Advising appointments for transfer students beginning at Baylor in either the Summer or Fall will begin April 26. Registration for appointments will open on April 19. You will be assigned an academic advisor who will help you select and register for your first semester classes. You can expect your advisor to contact you to arrange an advising conversation. Be sure to regularly check your Baylor email and respond to your advisor promptly in order to set up your advising conversation. You and your advisor will work together to determine if the conversation will occur by phone, email, or a campus visit.

- Visit with your academic advisor
During your advising conversation, you and your advisor will discuss your academic aspirations and work together to design a class schedule for your first semester. Visit the University Advisement website for great resources and recommendations to prepare for your advising appointment.
- Complete important registration steps
During or soon after your advising conversation, you should receive information from your advisor regarding important next steps. Those will include items such as selecting a meal plan, parking options, and understanding the Financial Settlement process.
