* Walter Abercrombie (right) is the Cen-Tex African American Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Month for July.

The Waco native graduated from University High School, starred as a running back at Baylor University and had an eight-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles before retiring in 1990. He is Baylor's all-time leading rusher.

He received his Master's of Education in 1992 and became a member of Baylor's athletic academic support staff. He now serves as associate athletics director and executive director of the Baylor "B" Association for the university's athletic department. He coordinates the fundraising and member development efforts of the organization.

Abercrombie also served as a board member for the Waco Education Foundation, the YMCA of Central Texas, and the Kiwanis Club of Waco, where he was president in 2001.

He and his wife Kim have four children, Wesley, Warren, Ryann and Peyton.
