Carolyn Parker Fanning, born in Montrose, Arkansas, and reared in Vicksburg, Mississippi; received her preparatory education at Carr Central High School, where she graduated Valedictorian, was editor of the school newspaper, and a cheerleader. She then received her B.A. degree from Bethany College, West Virginia, with distinction of her Senior Comprehensives and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity.
Carolyn is married to Robert A. Fanning, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Senior Partner in the law firm of Fanning, Harper & Martinson in Dallas. They reside in Glen Lakes at 7712 Glenshannon Circle. The Fannings have two sons, Barry and Marc, both of whom are married with children. Both are attorneys and practice law with Fanning, Harper & Martinson. The Fannings are members of the Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, the Park City Club, Baylor Development Council, and former members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Tanglewood Hills Country Club on Lake Texoma and the Ocean Reef Yacht Club in Key Largo, Florida.
The Fannings like to travel and frequently relax in New Orleans, San Francisco or Boston. Their travels abroad include Europe, the Orient, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, Israel, Africa, Alaska, Panama and Russia.
Carolyn's civic affiliations include her service as Co-Chairman of the Russell H. Perry Free Enterprise Foundation Award Dinner (1990) and as a member of the Women's Advisory Board of Dallas Baptist University. She was one of the recipients of the Ruth Award from the Dallas Baptist University in December 1992. she also serves on the Dinner Committee for the Russell H. Perry Free Enterprise Foundation award banquet.
She is a past president of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League and is currently on the Board. She is a former Chairman of the G.B. Dealey Award Competition, sponsored by the Dallas Morning News, and she ahs been a division chairman of the annual fund drive for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
She was the First President of the Baylor University Women's Council (1987-88); the Dallas Area Chairman of Baylor University's Campaign for Music Excellence; a member of the Board of Visitors of the Baylor University Music School and the Baylor University Development Council.
Carolyn is also a past president of the Dallas Lawyers' Wives Club (now the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary), and she chaired the Justinian Award Luncheon in 1986 and 1998.
She has served as President of the Women's Group of the Dallas Council of World Affairs and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Council. Carolyn received the Drew Pearson Award as Program Chairman of the Year from the International Platform Association in 1977. she is a member of the Dallas Woman's Club and the Dallas Garden Club. She is on the Dallas Summer Musicals Board and a past president of the Jr. 3-Arts Study Club.
Carolyn has been a PTA President and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the TACA auction. She has served on the North Texas Arthritis Foundation Board, as Treasurer of the Dallas Civic Opera's Women's Board, as Reservations Chairman for the Mayor's Ball and for the Flora Awards Luncheon benefiting the Dallas Civic Garden Center.
