Pianist Sara Daneshpour in Recital on the Lyceum Series

March 14, 2022
Gifted pianist Sara Daneshpour will present a guest recital as part of Baylor University’s Lyceum Series on Tuesday, March 29, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Roxy Grove Hall. Her program of études by Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and Hungarian composer György Ligeti combines two of the most intriguing and demanding collections ever written for the piano.
The Chopin set will include complete performances of all twelve études in Opus 10, as well as all twelve in his Opus 25.
As for the Ligeti portion of this program, Ms. Daneshpour will play six of the eighteen études in a cycle that he composed between 1985 and 2001. They are considered to be among the most significant sets of piano studies of the twentieth century, combining virtuoso technical problems with expressive content. To be heard on the Baylor recital are Ligeti’s Étude No. 10 (“Der Zauberlehrling”), Étude No. 5 (“Arc-en-ciel”), Étude No. 4 (“Fanfares”), Étude No. 6 (“Automne à Varsovie”), Étude No. 2 (“Cordes à vide”), and Étude No. 13 (“L’escalier du diable”).
Sara Daneshpour has appeared in solo recitals at many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, where she draws acclaim for her dazzling technique and exceptional level of artistic depth and sincerity. She has won major prizes in the 2017 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition, the 2014 Seoul International Music Competition, the 2012 Concours International de Musique du Maroc, the 2007 William Kapell International Piano Competition, and the 2007 International Russian Music Piano Competition.
Her Tuesday night Lyceum Series recital, made possible by the Meadows Foundation of Dallas, is free of charge and open to the public. It is also available for livestreaming at baylor.edu/music/live.
Ms. Daneshpour will present a piano master class in Roxy Grove Hall on Wednesday, March 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The master class, too, is free of charge and open to the public.
