Ann Shoemaker, Baylor University’s Associate Professor of Bassoon and Woodwind Area Coordinator, will present a faculty recital on Monday, November 1, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Roxy Grove Hall. She will be joined on stage by Rajung Yang, Lecturer in Class Piano, and Kristy Morrell, Associate Professor of Horn.
Opening the program will be Dr. Shoemaker and Dr. Morrell to play Catherine Likhuta’s Special Someone for horn and bassoon from 2020.
Next, Dr. Shoemaker and Dr. Yang will perform the world premiere of Sonata della speranze (“Sonata of Hope”) for bassoon and piano by Howard J. Buss. Dating from 2020, its three movements are described as “Auspicious Sunrise,” “Introspective,” and “Serendipitous.”
Another world premiere follows: a work from 2021 by John Steinmetz called What Can I Do? It is scored for a bassoonist who doubles as speaker when not blowing into the instrument.
And the program will close with Jeff Scott’s Elegy for Innocence for bassoon and piano from 2009.
This recital is free of charge and open to the public. It is also available for livestreaming at baylor.edu/music/live.
