Baylor Opera Theatre Presents a Musical Version of "Goldilocks"

September 21, 2021
Baylor Opera Theatre brings its troupe to Mayborn Museum for two performances of Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears on Sunday, October 10, with curtain times at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Children and adults alike will enjoy this 2018 musical adaptation of the “Goldilocks” story, with arranger John Davies crafting lyrics to the irresistible melodies of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Jacques Offenbach.
According to Davies, “My hope for children attending Goldie B is that, while laughing at her mistakes, they’ll also imagine solutions to her problems. My hope is that, like good friends, they’ll want to give her some good friendly advice, and when she finally does tell the truth, and the bears lovingly forgive her, they’ll understand forgiveness also. Because, after all, that’s what good friends do.”
The director and producer of Baylor Opera Theatre is Jen Stephenson, with musical preparation by conductors Joseph Li and Jeffrey Peterson, and the piano accompanists are Maggie Stith and Cezary Karwowski.
Preceding Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears, Baylor Opera Theatre will present a brief taste of Aaron Copland’s 1954 opera, The Tender Land. This sneak peek will consist of “Stomp Your Foot” and “The Promise of Living.” (Baylor Opera Theatre will stage its production of Copland’s complete opera from February 3 through 6.) The Tender Land is set in the American heartland during the Great Depression, when the hopeful existence of a rural farming family hinges upon the high school graduation of its eldest daughter.
These performances are included with the price of admission to the Mayborn Museum. Museum members and Baylor University students receive free admission. Mayborn Museum is located on the Baylor University campus at 1300 South University Parks Drive in Waco.
