Due to the continuing pandemic situation, Baylor Opera Theater’s second production of 2021 will again be presented without an in-person audience. However, viewers at home will be able to enjoy French composer Jacques Offenbach’s one-act operetta,
Le mariage aux lanternes, by going to the School of Music website for an online streaming opportunity. The live performance will take place on Saturday, February 13, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Premiered in 1857,
Le mariage aux lanternes is one of the ninety-eight operettas written by Offenbach in his long and prolific career. Unlike many of his more farcical comedies, this short work has a much deeper sentimental and pastoral feeling.
Singing the principal roles will be Kyle Felkins (Guillot), Hannah Hyden (Fanchette), Amy Pressman (Catherine), and Valarie Miles (Country Guard). The stage director for
Le mariage aux lanternes is Jen Stephenson, Director of Baylor Opera, and it will be conducted by Jeffrey Peterson, Assistant Professor of Vocal Coaching. The pianist will be graduate student Mario Barbosa, a native of São Pedro d’Aldeia, Brazil.
This live performance of Offenbach’s
Le mariage aux lanternes will be streamed from the stage of Baylor University’s Black Box Opera Theatre. You can join the virtual audience
