Baylor Jazz Ensemble in Virtual Concert

October 9, 2020
Due to the current pandemic situation, the Baylor University Jazz Ensemble’s second concert of the 2020-2021 academic year will be presented without an in-person audience. However, viewers at home will be able to enjoy the performance by going to the School of Music website for an online livestreaming opportunity. This concert will take place on Tuesday, October 20, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The 18-member Jazz Ensemble is led by Alex Parker, Senior Lecturer in Jazz Studies and Director of the Wayne Fisher Jazz Program at Baylor University.
Their program will open with “Sky Blue” by Maria Schneider, featuring soprano saxophonist Logan Banister of Papillion, Nebraska. The Jazz Ensemble’s performance of this piece is dedicated to the memory of a former member of the group, trumpeter Sally Tepper, who passed away in early September. For more on Sally, click here.
Next on the concert will be “Blues in Hoss Flat” by Frank Foster, and that will be followed by “Roundabout” by Rich DeRosa, featuring bassist Jonathan Keith of Houston.
The program will close with “Moss Code” by Michael Philip Mossman.
This live concert by the Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will be streamed from the stage of Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. To join the virtual audience, simply visit the School of Music website by clicking here.
