Eisemann Center in Richardson Hosts the 2017 President's Concert

For the 2017 President’s Concert, the School of Music brings to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex “A Choral Collage,” a program that features more than three hundred talented singers and instrumentalists. The concert will be on Thursday, April 20, beginning at 7:30 pm in the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson.

On the Eisemann Center stage will be five of Baylor University’s major choral ensembles: A Cappella Choir (Jerry McCoy, conductor), Bella Voce (Lynne Gackle), Concert Choir (Lynne Gackle), Women’s Choir (Stephen Gusukuma), and Men’s Choir (Randall Bradley). Also performing, in a pre-concert reception, will be Baylor’s brilliant song-and-dance troupe, VirtuOSO (Stephen Gusukuma).

Opening the President’s Concert will be Assistant Professor of Organ Isabelle Demers with the Ralph Vaughan Williams arrangement of “Rhosymedre.”

Dr. McCoy will lead the combined choirs in another Vaughan Williams piece, “O Clap Your Hands,” with brass, percussion, and organist Jillian Gardner. Bella Voce will sing Ola Gjeilo’s “Northern Lights” and the “Gloria” from Levente Gyöngyösi’s Gloria Kajoniensis.

The Men’s Choir will perform Kurt Bestor’s “Prayer of the Children,” followed by the Women’s Choir with “Love Arrives” by Tom Trenney, the Concert Choir with Jake Runestad’s “Alleluia,” and the Women’s Choir with Daniel Gawthrop’s “Sing Me to Heaven.” Also to be heard are the Men’s Choir with Ryan Cayabyab’s “Da Coconut Nut,” the Concert Choir with Ola Gjeilo’s “Evening Prayer,” and the Concert Choir with Bob Chilcott’s “And Every Stone Shall Cry.”

After Uzee Brown’s “Rock-a My Soul,” the A Cappella Choir will sing Guido López-Gavilán’s “¡Canta!” the combined women will present Dan Forrest’s setting of “How Great Thou Art,” the combined men will sing Randall Thompson’s “The Last Words of David,” and the massed voices (with organ, brass, and percussion) will perform Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”
