Clarinet Festival Presents a Recital by Guest Artists

The 2015 Baylor Clarinet Choir and Chamber Music Festival will present a recital by guest artists on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 1:15 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
Opening the program will be clarinetist Vanguel Tangarov and his wife, pianist Ekaterina Tangarova with the Fantasy and Rondo of German composer Carl Maria von Weber and then “Carnival of Venice” Capriccio by Italian composer Alamiro Giampieri. Dr. Tantarov is Principal Clarinet of the Austin Opera, Mid-Texas Symphony, and Victoria Symphony.
Next to perform will be Gary Whitman, Professor of Clarinet and Division Chair of Woodwinds at Texas Christian University, who will play Swedish composer Erland von Koch’s Monolog No. 3 for bass clarinet and Cuban composer Paquito D’Rivera’s Contradanza.
Michael Isadore is the Associate Conductor with the Houston Civic Symphony, Philharmonia conductor of the Houston Youth Symphony, and Director of Orchestras at Dulles High School. He and his wife, flutist Jennifer Isadore, principal flutist of the Houston Civic Symphony the Symphony of Southeast Texas, will play American composer Dan Welcher’s Reversible Jackets (Exercises in Conjugal Counterpoint).
Clarinetist Mary Alice Druhan has enjoyed an active performing career as a member of numerous professional orchestras, bands, and chamber ensembles, including the U.S. Army Band (“Pershing’s Own”) and the Dallas Wind Symphony. She will perform Thracian Sketches for solo clarinet by contemporary American composer Derek Bermel.
The program will close with another piece by Weber, his three-movement Grand Duo Concertant, Op. 48, with Baylor’s Assistant Professor of Clarinet Jun Qian and Assistant Professor of Piano Kae Hosoda-Ayer.
