The Concert Jazz Ensemble Performs, with guest drummer Edward Taylor

Baylor University’s Concert Jazz Ensemble will present its first concert of the fall semester with a program on Thursday, October 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, which is located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
The Concert Jazz Ensemble is led by Alex Parker, Continuing Lecturer in Jazz Studies and Director of the Baylor University Jazz Program. The guest drummer will be Edward Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Music Theory at Baylor University.
Opening the program will be Sammy Nestico’s “Basie Straight Ahead” and Fred Sturm’s “Cerulean Sky.”
Next, the twenty-member Concert Jazz Ensemble will play an arrangement by Billy Strayhorn of “Anitra’s Dance” from Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s incidental music to Peer Gynt.
Also to be heard are Maria Schneider’s “Coming About” (featuring a drumming solo by Edward Taylor), Gerry Mulligan’s “Jeru,” and Bob Mintzer’s “Like a Child.”
The program will close with the Michael Philip Mossman arrangement of “The Blues Walk” by Clifford Brown.
