Part-time Senior Lecturer in Music Theory

Theory

Jana Millar is Part-time Senior Lecturer of Music Theory at Baylor University, and holds degrees in music theory from the University of North Texas (MM, PhD) and Baylor University (BM). Current professional interests include the pedagogy of theory and aural skills, contemplative pedagogy, and instructional technology. Since joining the Baylor music faculty in 1988, her career has been focused on quality teaching of undergraduate core courses in music theory and aural skills. She also teaches graduate theory review and theory pedagogy courses. Millar serves as associate director of Baylor in Austria and teaches form analysis during summer sessions in Salzburg. She is an active member of the Texas Society for Music Theory, serving as treasurer from 2001-2011. Since 2007 she has served as a Reader for the College Board AP Music Theory exam. She received the Veterans of Baylor coin of appreciation in 2014 and Baylor’s Outstanding Professor Award for Teaching in 2015.
