Choral Ensembles

A Cappella Choir

The Baylor A Cappella Choir is the premier choral ensemble at Baylor University. Selected by competitive audition, the choir is comprised of some of the most advanced singers at Baylor, both music majors and non-music majors. A Cappella performs a wide variety of musical styles at concerts on campus, including Family Weekend, Fall and Spring Concerts, the President’s Concert, A Baylor Christmas, in the community, throughout the state, and across the country. The choir has performed for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. The Baylor A Cappella Choir has also performed for the Texoma Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the prestigious National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association.

Bella Voce

Baylor Bella Voce is a highly selective women’s ensemble comprised primarily of undergraduate and graduate music majors, but is also open to non-music majors. Bella Voce performs a wide and interesting variety of choral selections reflecting various style periods and genres from the vast repertoire written specifically for women’s voices. The ensemble performs on campus at the Family Weekend Concert, Fall and Spring Concerts, a Baylor Christmas, and the Armstrong Browning Christmas Concerts. In addition to recording, the ensemble performs in the community, across the state, and nationally. Most recently, the were invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association Southwest Division Conference in 2018. Baylor Bella Voce is one of the premier touring ensembles in the School of Music.

Chamber Singers

Founded over 50 years ago by the late conductor/composer, Dr. Robert Young, the Baylor Chamber Singers are a pillar of choral tradition at Baylor University. Specializing in music from the Renaissance through Contemporary periods, the small chamber choir is noted for excellence in the choral art. The ensemble frequently performs in the exceptional acoustics of the Foyer of Meditation in the Armstrong Browning Library, a space exquisite in sound and visual aesthetic, and the site of the beloved annual Chamber Singers Christmas Concerts.

Concert Choir

The Baylor University Concert Choir performs music from all style periods of the choral repertoire. This mixed choir has developed a strong reputation of choral excellence, and regularly delights audiences in community performances and statewide venues. A robust on-campus concert schedule includes Family Weekend, Fall and Spring Concerts, A Baylor Christmas, and the President’s Concert. The Baylor Concert Choir’s most recently performed works include the Chichester Psalms (Bernstein), Elijah (Mendelssohn) with the Ft. Worth Symphony, and Brahms’ Requiem with the Baylor A Cappella Choir and the Baylor Symphony Orchestra.

Women’s Choir

The Baylor University Women's Choir is a community of singers dedicated to the four pillars of Diversity, Virtue, Harmony, and Musicianship. Annual performances include the Family Weekend Choral Concert, fall and spring concerts, and A Baylor Christmas. The choir also hosts the Baylor Women's Choir Festival - an event attended by over 300 high school female singers each year. The choir is active across campus, participating in a variety of events in the community and across the state.

Men’s Choir

The Baylor University Men’s Choir has brought joy and musical excellence to Baylor’s campus since 1895. The choir of over 100 men represents diverse majors, states, and countries. On campus, the choir performs for Family Weekend, University Chapel, and A Baylor Christmas, as well as concerts in the fall and spring. Serving the local community is paramount to the choir’s mission – the BUMC sings at an elementary school every Christmas, performs in a nearby prison, and hosts several events for high school choir men from around Texas. On a global scale, the group maintains a strong commitment to international missions, with recent tours to Kenya and Argentina, performing songs in the native language.

Founded in August of 2012, VirtuOSO is the premier pop/a cappella/vocal jazz ensemble at Baylor.  Devoted to creativity, variety, and excellence, this group performs arrangements ranging from four to fourteen parts, most written in-house by students, graduates, or their director, supplying every component using only their voices.  The ensemble performs during the Family Weekend Concert, and also hosts fall and spring concerts, album release shows, and performs for university and community events.  They have recorded two albums, a music video, and will release a virtual reality music video in Fall of 2017.  VirtuOSO has recently been in national and international spotlight, placing 4th in ICCA National Finals in 2015, 2nd place in VoiceJAM in 2016, guest appearances in Taitung, Taiwan at the Vocal Asia Festival in 2016, and winners of the ICCA Southwest Quarterfinals in 2017.
