Learn to love, live, & serve right here in Waco through Urban Missions!
What if Waco were a little different by the time you graduated because you chose to invest in someone's life? What if you were different because of the time you gave each week?
Baylor Urban Missions partners with Waco organizations and churches to provide opportunities for students to engage in the greater Waco community through relationship building and service.
What is Baylor Urban Missions?
Urban Missions partners with Waco organizations and churches to provide opportunities for students to engage in the greater Waco community through relationship building and service.
At Baylor Missions we believe God calls us to love our neighbor and Urban Missions seeks to faciliate this as we provide opportunities to engage in weekly service.
Our teams are student-led and partner with exisiting organizations in Waco to support the great work they are doing. All Baylor students are invited to join a team and serve consistently with that team all year long. Requirements for volunteering vary on a team-by-team basis so interested students can contact the student leader for team-specific information.
Baylor Urban Missions employs the following strategies to accomplish the guiding principles laid out by Pro Futuris
- By partnering with non-profit organizations in Waco, students learn to have a greater understanding of what it means to serve in a place of need. Non-profit administrators educate student teams on the work being done, its purpose and the most effective methods of serving a community.
- Students work with established non-profits to make contributions to the overall quality of life in Waco and Central Texas. Urban Missions teams work in childhood education and recreation, adult education, and urban gardening, among other areas. These efforts benefit health and economic prosperity of residents and the region as a whole.
- Urban Missions teams are led by 38 student leaders. Guided by staff, these students lead groups in serving the community effectively and appropriately. Student leaders attend regular training sessions to develop leadership skills, knowledge of service and ethical leadership principles.
