Baylor to Celebrate Founder's Day at Chapel-Forum Jan. 29

Baylor University will celebrate Founders Day during Chapel-Forum at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in Waco Hall.
During the annual celebration, Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will present the Baylor University Founders Medal to Dr. Cornelia Marschall Smith of Waco and Mrs. Patsy Hollandsworth of Longview. The Founders Medal is given to individuals who have distinguished themselves in their professions and their service to Baylor and mankind.
Founders Day honors the founding fathers of Texas oldest university, when university officials, students and staff express their gratitude and appreciation for the establishment of the university.
Smith, who recently turned 100, is Baylor's oldest living former faculty member. She served as chair of the biology department at Baylor from 1943-67. Since her retirement in 1968, she has continued to devote herself to her former students, to the study of biology and to English and other cultural pursuits. She still maintains an office in Baylor's Armstrong-Browning Library.
Smith has received many honors and recognitions from professional , civic and academic organizations. She received a citation from the State Board of Medical Examiners in 1967 and was named a Distinguished Alumna of Baylor in 1971.
Patsy Hollandsworth has been a supporter of Baylor students through endowed scholarships for many years. She and her late husband Earl Hollandsworth, a well-known East Texas oil businessman, have supported more than 2,297 students since 1980 through the Earl and Patsy Hollandsworth Scholarship Funds.
Hollandsworth is known for her interests and skills as a musician, playing both piano and organ, and as a singer.
