December 7, 1995

The Waco Tribune-Herald recently awarded Thomas Bartlett, a Baylor University journalism major, the James M. Cox Jr. Foundation/Waco Tribune-Herald Scholarship for $2,500.
Bartlett, an Albuquerque, N.M., junior, was one of approximately 10 Baylor students competing for the scholarship. Scholarship requirements include essay writing, a minimum 3.0 grade point average and junior classification. Recipients also must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in newspaper journalism.
The scholarship will be applied to the spring 1996 semester. Under the terms of the award, Bartlett also received a 10-week paid summer internship at the Waco Tribune-Herald (approximately $2,000), for which up to 6 hours of college credit may be earned.
"I'm excited about it; it's a great opportunity. What I want to do and love more than anything is newspaper writing," Bartlett said.
