NCAA Modifies Charges Against Baylor Men's Basketball Program

July 7, 1995

WACO, Texas-On June 29, 1995, the NCAA issued an amended Official Inquiry regarding infractions within the Baylor University men's basketball program during 1993 and 1994. The amended Official Inquiry modifies allegations contained in the original inquiry and is based on information recently provided University investigators by former assistant men's basketball coaches Gary Thomas, Kevin Gray and Troy Drummond. Significantly, the amended Official Inquiry withdraws an allegation against the University regarding an incident of unethical conduct and several allegations regarding supposed improper inducements to prospective student-athletes. The amended Official Inquiry also clarifies allegations contained in the original inquiry and adds allegations of unethical conduct against certain individuals formerly associated with the men's basketball program. This modification in charges does not affect the date of the hearing before the Committee on Infractions scheduled for Aug. 11, 1995.
Baylor President Robert B. Sloan, Jr., commented, "The University is in substantial agreement with each of the allegations contained in the amended Official Inquiry and anticipates a final resolution of the matter later this summer."
